Play “The Forced Marriage”
Piece presented by the company Le Gros Tuyau, based in the Bozel valley.
Le Mariage forcé is a one-act comedy by Molière, first performed in 1664. It features Sganarelle, a middle-aged man who plans to marry a young woman, Dorimène. But he begins to doubt the merits of this marriage upon discovering his future wife’s frivolous and independent attitude. Seeking advice from various characters, including philosophers, he ultimately finds himself forced to marry Dorimène despite his hesitations.
Through this lively and satirical play, Molière mocks marriages of convenience and power relations in romantic relationships.
