Small, typical mountain village, authentic ski resort
A mountain village in the French Alps, inhabited since the 12th century, Pralognan-la-Vanoise was originally a site based on livestock farming and milk production at high altitude. This agricultural tradition continues today, with pastoralism and cheesemaking, including the famous AOP Beaufort. A place of passage and welcome in summer throughout the ages, Pralognan-la-Vanoise became, at the beginning of the 20th century, a mountain resort in winter. Initially popular for ski touring, this Alpine resort, among the pioneers of winter sports in Savoie, inaugurated the Mont-Bochor cable car in 1953, then the fastest in the world!
This rich and diverse mountain culture, maintained by the people of Pralognan over the generations, allows the authentic ski resort to preserve its simplicity and uniqueness. Thus, Pralognan is a unique mountain destination, at the foot of the giants of the Vanoise and in the heart of one of the most famous Alpine valleys in the world.

Cradle of tourism and mountain life in summer
Pralognan-la-Vanoise has always been a must-see stopover in the French Alps. Located at the foot of the massif and the Col de la Vanoise, the last village in the valley serves as a transit point between the Tarentaise, Maurienne, and Italian Piedmont (and serves as a transport hub for many goods, via the famous “salt and cheese” route).
In August 1860, the conquest of the Grande Casse (the highest peak in Savoy) by the young English mountaineer William Mathews sealed Pralognan’s tourist destiny. Thus, by the beginning of the 20th century, the small mountain village was already a popular alpine resort, with its tourist office, hotels and shops, and mountain guides.
At the origin of Savoyard mountaineering and summer mountain tourism, Pralognan has continued to perpetuate its mountain traditions and offer tourists, families, mountaineers, and cyclists a genuine and humane land of welcome and exploration.
